Bayside Sixth Graders Connect with SOCCOM

April 16, 2019

Daphne, Ala., April 12, 2019 – Yesterday, Bayside Academy sixth graders had a telepresence session with Dr. Robert Key, Lead Data Manager for the Southern Ocean Carbon and Climate Observation and Modeling (SOCCOM) project. They connected with Dr. Key about the research SOCCOM is conducting with Antarctic floats, particularly the one our students named “Midnight Sun” that was deployed on March 4 in the Weddell Sea around Antarctica. Bayside was the only school in Alabama that was selected to name a float and collect data for real-world science investigations from Antarctica!

Additional information on the Adopt-a-Float Program may be found here. To see pictures of the Midnight Sun being deployed, please click here
